Pushpanjali was founded in 1982 by S.C. Mittal. It then started with 5 producers. Rapidly Mr. Mittal got to meet Oxfam organization, with whom Pushpanjali started to discuss and exchange on the concept of Fair Trade. Fair trade provides more than an income to local producers. It is a sustainable way for disadvantaged people, men and women, to raise their family in decent living conditions, be recognized for their specific craft mastery, and be in a position to build future perspectives altogether it is a path towards empowerment. 1. Supporting womens financial autonomy: The Ajam Para Women Team The Pushpanjali scarf production team is composed of 12 women all living in the same area of Agra, in Ajam Para. They started working with Pushpanjali 3 years back now, and got a chance then to generate an income by themselves, which is extremely rare in that area for women.
